Accessibility & Inclusion Plan 2012

PIE’s involvement and ongoing commitment to the deaf and disabled community was evident by exhibiting at the Mayor’s ‘Disability Capital’ Conference and the combined “No Limits” exhibition at the ExCel centre on Friday 25 September 2009, which focused on Equality Duty, Accessible 2012, Inclusive Transport, Skills and Employment, Arts, Culture and Sport. This is a leading forum involving disabled people, policy makers and representative organisations throughout the UK.
The PIE team demonstrated their fully inclusive online mapping service for local authorities ‘Accessibility Gateway’ Myjourney.org.uk successfully piloted by both Camden & Islington in association with TfL. The online mapping and information portal provides an easy-to-use resource tool detailing local facilities and accessible transport Information across the boroughs for use by the general public. PIE also showcased their contribution to the national accessibility agenda with ‘Blue Badge Map’ directgov.co.uk/bluebadgemap created and developed by PIE for Directgov, offering a wealth of information on Blue Badge parking bays, local council parking rules, accessible public toilets, train stations and shopmobility centres nationwide. Also presented was the first Sat Nav of its type to ever reach the UK market; BBNav. A pioneering Sat Nav device developed in partnership with Navevo specifically tailored to the needs of UK Blue Badge drivers.
As part of PIE’s work to reduce Blue Badge theft – PIE offered a bundled package to Local Authorities of their directly manufactured security device - Blue Badge Protector, as well as the Concise Blue Badge UK Road Atlas and PIE’s Blue Badge Parking guide for London, which a number of authorities have championed to their local citizens through various parking shops and complimentary distribution.
High on Friday’s agenda in the conference hall was the Mayor’s Economic Recovery Action Plan, developments for London in the run up to 2012, and the legacy it leaves behind.
Wayne Trevor, Accessibility & Inclusion Manager from TfL unveiled a new fleet of accessible trains with an open invitation for delegates to visit and offer their appraisal, along with plans to develop the Victoria, Hammersmith & Jubilee lines in time for 2012. Mark Dyer of the Olympic Delivery Authority gave details of their commitment to delivering a fully inclusive community service strategy for London 2012 and the Paralympics’ to offer worldwide inspiration and to challenge pre conceived ideas.
Deputy Mayor of London and Chair of Disability Capital Richard Barnes said,
“2012 promises to be a showcase of sporting achievement…with London’s Deaf and disabled community lending their expertise and talent, we’re transforming our city for accessibility and inclusivity.”
